You say that you are an IB candidate school, what does this mean?

Any IB school is a candidate school for the first two-three years, after which the IB conducts an assessment and then authorises the school to offer the PYP. The MYP authorisation follows a similar system. During candidature the school is fully functional and offers the PYP or MYP under the supervision of the IB. We are an IB World School, authorised for the PYP and now in the candidacy phase for the MYP.

Growing With Gratitude

We participated in the 5th Annual “World’s Biggest Gratitude Lesson” hosted by Growing With Gratitude. The purpose of joining this event was to bring young people from around the world together to practise gratitude, kindness and empathy; and promote mental well-being.

With over 50,000 kindergarten, primary, and high school students registered from 38 countries for their 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 events, the Growing With Gratitude is now an annual event.

Grade 1-2 and 3-4 joined this movement to help create a future generation of grateful individuals. We created gratitude cards for the people we are thankful for after attending the session.

We were delighted to have our very own Administration Manager, Ms. Snehal Chhasatia, as a Guest speaker, to enlighten us on the intricate workings of our school systems for our current unit on ‘Systems within an organisation’. 🏫 Ms. Snehal gave us an inside look at how various systems, such as the sanitization, catering, transport, and resource management departments, etc. seamlessly collaborate to create a positive and safe learning environment for our students. 🚌🍎🧹📚
She highlighted the vital role each department plays in maintaining the school’s operations. The Transport system ensures student safety during their journeys to and from school, while the Catering system provides nutritious meals to fuel their learning. The Sanitization team works hard to keep the school clean and healthy, and the Resource Management team ensures that all necessary learning materials are readily available, creating a seamless and enriched learning experience for students.
Ms. Snehal also emphasized how the absence of any one system could affect the others, reminding us of the importance of teamwork and interdependence. Her valuable insights left us with a deeper understanding of how every piece of the puzzle contributes to the smooth functioning of our school.

We were excited to have Mr. Meet Adhvaryu, our talented Graphic Designer, join us as a guest speaker for an inspiring session. He shared his expertise on brochures, explaining their design, content, and how they differ from advertisements. Mr. Adhvaryu also introduced different formats like bifold and trifold. Students were full of enthusiasm, putting their creativity to work by designing their own brochure for the school. It was a truly engaging and hands-on experience for all! 💡

✨🎉 *The grand finale of Literary Week was truly an unforgettable celebration of creativity and learning!* 🎭📚

Throughout the week, students and teachers came together to enjoy a wide range of exciting activities, making every day special. From the Puppet Show 🐻🎪 that brought characters to life, to the Word Chain 📝🔗 challenge that had everyone thinking on their feet, and the Character Making 🎨✂️ activity where imagination soared, it was a week filled with fun, laughter, and discovery! Each activity showcased the amazing talent and enthusiasm in our school community.

The final day was nothing short of spectacular! We ended on a high note with a fantastic drama performance by our talented teachers 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫, entertaining the entire school with their incredible storytelling. And of course, the Sam & Mi Book Fair 📚✨ was a huge success, offering everyone the chance to explore and discover new books—perfect for all the budding readers!

Our young learners of Grade 1-2s, recently embarked on an exciting field trip to a local bank as part of their new unit on systems. Their curiosity led to a flood of questions as they eagerly explored the intricacies of the banking system.

The visit offered them an insightful look into the bank’s infrastructure, including different departments like loans, inquiries, the locker room, ATM services, and cash withdrawal and deposit areas. Engaging discussions with bank representatives deepened their understanding of banking terminology, such as bank accounts, debit and credit cards, loans, and interest rates.

Through this hands-on experience, students reflected on the importance of keeping money safe in a bank rather than at home. They proudly shared their personal experiences with their parents, including how they’ve withdrawn cash using a card and password. Their wonderings were equally thought-provoking: “How much extra money will I earn as interest if I deposit my savings?”, “Why can’t we open a bank account from home—why is a visit to the bank necessary?”, etc.

This field trip truly immersed our students in the world of banking, sparking curiosity and a deeper understanding of financial systems!

At Aarth Universal School, we celebrated Teacher’s Day with immense joy and gratitude for the dedication and hard work of our incredible teachers. The day began with heartwarming celebrations in the classrooms, where students and teachers came together to enjoy the occasion.

Our PY- MY students took the lead by organising a grand celebration, welcoming teachers with the beats of dhol and nagada. The excitement grew as they presented a fun-filled treasure hunt challenge for the teachers, sparking joy and laughter all around!

Later, the leadership team took over with a series of engaging activities. Teachers were divided into 6 teams to compete in thrilling challenges, including threading needles, building the tallest wooden block tower, and a hilarious skit titled “A Day in the Life of a Teacher,” which had everyone in stitches! We wrapped up the day by creating fun dance reels to upbeat music, capturing the festive spirit.

The celebrations ended with a special surprise gift from the management – a personalized token of appreciation for each teacher. 🎁
It was truly a day filled with excitement, joy, and unforgettable memories! ✨

We continued with unleashing creativity and exploring new horizons on the third day of our unforgettable Literary Week! 🌟
On Day 3, we organized an online workshop for all parents titled Raise a Reader which was to help parents understand how to promote reading habits in kids. Meanwhile, the little ones of Early Years and 1-2s engaged in a bookmark-making activity, showcasing their creativity and enthusiasm by crafting beautiful and colourful bookmarks.
Additionally, the students of 3-4s visited the Kavi Narmad Library to delve deeper into literature. Our students from Grade 5 to 8 gained valuable insights about surrealism during the surrealist poetry writing session. Overall, the children thoroughly enjoyed the diverse literary activities, which also helped to enhance their literary skills.

While exploring the unit on ‘Visual designs’ our Grade 6-7s and Grade 8 students had an exciting guest speaker session on CAD software with passionate Mr. Prashant Mistry from Solidworks!

The session kicked off with students buzzing with anticipation as they prepared to apply what they've learnt in class to real-world design challenges. Mr. Mistry began by taking them back to the Root of CAD software, guiding them through its origins and fundamentals, before diving into the exciting process of transforming 2D shapes into dynamic 3D models.

As they explored the software, students picked up new technical terms like "extrude," "reference plane," "revolve," and "extrude hollow", adding these powerful tools to their design vocabulary. This hands-on, interactive experience was a highlight for our young designers, who were thrilled to see their visual drawings come to life on screen. The session was not just educational but also a lot of fun, as students connected their sketches with real-life applications, making creativity and technology come together in the most engaging way!

The excitement reached its peak as we gathered to break the most yearned-for chocolate handi, a tradition that filled the air with joy and laughter. The day concluded with a delightful Garba performance. As our little ones tapped their feet and swayed to the rhythmic beats, their hearts surely brimmed with happiness!

Aarth, a vibrant canvas of tradition and knowledge, paid homage to our cultural heritage through the joyous celebration of Janmashtami and Gujarati Bhasha Divas.

For our PY-MY students, the day kicked off with a thought-provoking discussion on the profound significance of Gujarati Bhasha Divas. With much reverence, we paid homage to the literary luminary, Kavi Narmad, whose contributions to Gujarati literature are unparalleled.

Following the insightful discussion, the school erupted into a frenzy of excitement as the much-awaited house-wise competition commenced! Students from each house battled it out in a series of challenging hurdles, answering a set of intriguing questions. The quiz centred around the joyous festival of Janmashtami, testing students’ knowledge of the festival's traditions and mythology in the vibrant Gujarati language.

The winning house not only claimed the highest points but also earned the coveted opportunity to break the much-anticipated chocolate handi. It was a delightful culmination of the day's festivities, followed by Garba, the cultural dance of Gujarat.

It was certainly a day rooted in our tradition as well as infused with fun and sweet victory!

Logical representation can create patterns to decode puzzles in the world.

In our Grade 8 class, we utilized a visually engaging approach to capture students' attention and stimulate critical thinking. We started by presenting an logical pattern based image related to our Statement of Inquiry (SOI) along with a word splash. Some interesting words that came up included mathematical operations, space, pattern, puzzle, lines, and honeycomb, which led to insightful discussions and curiosity-driven questions.
- What was the thought behind this?
- Why was only this image chosen?
- What is the purpose of this unit?

This visual aid ignited engaging class discussions, allowing students to articulate and defend their interpretations.

Following this, we organized a gallery walk featuring various patterns and puzzles, which encouraged students to explore and solve mathematical challenges. To reinforce understanding of key mathematical concepts, students brainstormed synonyms and associated them with appropriate photographs, fostering connections between abstract ideas and real-world examples.

After thorough exploration, we concluded that the key concept of 'Form' was most applicable to our unit, prompting further investigations into related concepts. This approach not only cultivated curiosity but also heightened anticipation for future classes, demonstrating the effectiveness of our teaching methods in inspiring a love for mathematics.

In line with our cherished Aarth tradition, we were delighted to celebrate Raksha Bandhan by appreciating and honouring those who protect and support us. This year, we dedicated this celebration to the SMC cleaning workers, who tirelessly safeguard our environment and city with their unwavering efforts. In their honour, our students crafted beautiful rakhis in their classes. Our MYP students visited the SMC office to personally tie rakhis to the cleaning workers, expressing their gratitude and respect. This heartwarming gesture highlighted the spirit of Raksha Bandhan—thanking those who protect us.

Inspired by Tagore's views on Raksha Bandhan and how he used the occasion to unite people, we reflected on the importance of coming together and supporting one another. Join us in celebrating the spirit of protection and gratitude! As we contemplate on our Theme of the Year, Root, we recognised that our strength lies in the bonds we nurture and the roots we cultivate in our community. 💖
