What are TOK, EE and CAS?

Theory of Knowledge is an essay of 1,200-1,600 words written on a given title (from a choice of ten), followed by a ten-minute presentation of the essay by the student in class.

The Extended Essay is an original independent research leading a DP student to produce a comprehensible written piece of 3,500-4,000 words in any chosen subject and title.

Under Creative, Action and Service (CAS), each DP student must complete at least 150 hours of work spread over one-and-a-half years, engaging in some form of creativity, participating in sport or other physical action, and doing social service.

On Friday, 19th July, we came together to honour and express our gratitude to our Gurus. Our students participated in a series of special activities to celebrate this auspicious day.

Our young learners across all grades watched enlightening videos related to Guru Purnima. These videos highlighted the importance of Gurus in our lives, including parents, teachers, peers, and anyone who guides and mentors us towards our goals.

The upper primary and middle school students expressed gratitude to their Gurus through a journal entry. They shared specific lessons and experiences that shaped their lives and explained how their guidance helped overcome a challenge or foster growth.

All young Aarthians created gratitude cards for their parents to take home as a special takeaway, recognizing them as their first Gurus.

We cherished this opportunity to make Guru Purnima, a meaningful and memorable celebration!

We had an amazing time at our EY Parent Potluck "Khaanpaan aur Gupshup" event! The afternoon was a wonderful showcase of the warmth and spirit of our school community with a spread full of love and care.

From aromatic biryanis and flavourful curries to delightful samosas and refreshing salads, the savoury dishes were a treat for the senses.The dessert table, with gulab jamun, ladoos, and brownies, was impressive.

Parents engaged in lively discussions, laughed together, filling the room with joy and camaraderie.The atmosphere was electric with old and new friendships.

The "Gupshup" where parents exchanged tips on recipes and parenting in a relaxed, friendly environment, showcased the strong bonds within our school community.

Our PY-MY Parent Potluck - Khaanpan aur Gupshup was a heartwarming celebration of our vibrant community! The evening was filled with laughter, delicious food, and a sense of togetherness that made the evening truly special.

Each family brought a unique dish, showcasing the diverse culinary traditions within our community. From savoury treats to sweet delights, the spread was nothing short of spectacular. It was wonderful to see everyone sharing their favourite recipes and enjoying the variety of flavours.

“Learning is a treasure that will follow its own

“Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.” - Chinese Proverb.

The energy at Square Yard crackled with a different kind of excitement. Students from all four grades were gathered, not for a class assembly, but for an adventure – a book launch event!

Eight mixed-grade groups were formed, each eager to crack the code. We were presented with clues, hinting at different locations within the school. These clues led us to where we found hints presented as a riddle. On solving the riddle, we finally discovered the hidden treasure pieces. Putting them together, what did we find? Our Read Aloud, ‘Given from the Heart’ by Patricia McKissack!!! The journey engaged our curiosity and immersed us in the thrill of discovery.

In essence, the excitement generated by this unique discovery experience enriched our engagement with the book, creating lasting memories and a deeper love for reading that books bring into our lives.

At Aarth, we are dedicated to fostering a love of reading and nurturing a spirit of curiosity in our students. By empowering us to take ownership of our learning journey, we inspire young minds to explore, imagine, and grow!

For days, whispers danced through the classroom of Grade 5 like mischievous pixies. Cryptic posters, plastered on bulletin boards, hinted at a "BIG" arrival in the class. Celebrity author visit? A mind-blowing new learning tool? The suspense had our students’ imaginations running wild!

The mystery deepened when a giant, wrapped box was found placed in the corner of the classroom. Students transformed into junior detectives! The excitement crackled in the air, as thick as the wrapping paper surrounding the box!

Finally, the moment of truth arrived and the door swung open with a bang! In a scene straight out of a detective movie, a news reporter bursts through the door, following a trail of clues and whispers. With a dramatic flourish, students approached the wrapped box in the corner to unfold the mystery. The excitement and cheer grew as the wrapping paper fell away, revealing the masterpiece behind the whispers – The Boy Who Got Accidentally Famous by David Baddiel, our next exciting Read-Aloud adventure!

This mystery book launch was a runaway success, proving that reading can be its own action-packed adventure. Who knows, maybe the next literary superstar is brewing their first story right here in this very classroom!

Grade 3-4 enthusiastically embarked on an incredible journey of learning and exploration. The students went to the school ground and discussed the dilemma of having a giant tree in the centre of the playground.
The thought-provoking situations made them engaged in analysing the challenge of:

1. Remove the large tree in the centre of the ground to create a turf for football.
2. Keep the tree and forgo the turf.

The students eagerly took sides, with some advocating for the removal of the tree and others championing its preservation. Each group had compelling reasons for their choice. They sat with teachers, discussing their points passionately. In the end, both groups presented their opinions to each other in a lively debate. Lastly, the Read Aloud, ‘A Small History of Disagreement’, was launched by uncovering the book with a bang.

Oozing with curiosity, students quickly made connections between the entire scenario and the Read Aloud book.

This exercise not only helped us launch the book by connecting with the theme of disagreement but also tied in beautifully with our writing genre for this unit: debate.

We Aarthians believe in sowing the seeds of knowledge and curiosity by involving students in taking charge of their learning and providing them with the taste of experiential learning. Nonetheless, we aim to help them embrace the ever-changing world.

One teacher portrayed Vera, while another transformed into the iconic chair, captivating our young audience with their engaging performances. 🌟 Exciting Financial Literacy Session at Aarth Universal School! 🌟

We had a wonderful guest, Ms. Bharvi Avlani from Mumbai conduct an engaging session on Financial Literacy for our Grade 3 to 8 students. Ms. Bharvi is determined to create financial awareness among kids aged 6 to 15 in an extraordinarily fun way, focusing on developing their passion and curiosity. The session kicked off with a read-aloud on how the barter system works and its challenges. Our students learnt about the introduction of currency, denominations, and the currencies of different countries.

The next activity was a fun exercise where students packed a backpack with a list of essential items for a space trip. This led to a meaningful discussion on the concept of needs vs. wants, highlighting that needs are limited and easy to satisfy, while wants are unlimited and often unsatisfied.

We played an interactive game called “Spin the Win,” which helped our students better understand the difference between needs and wants. The concept of spending and saving became clearer through online games, and we even created a catchy saving song in groups: “Save, save money...”

Role-playing activities taught us what we do in a bank, introducing new words like deposit, withdraw, income, spending, savings, interest (extra money), repay, borrow, and lend. We also explored different types of deposits.

Our students enjoyed the session immensely and learnt a lot about managing money and making smart financial choices. A big thank you to our Miss Bharvi Avlani for this fantastic learning experience! 🌟💡📚💰

On June 21, 2024, Aarthians came together to celebrate the symphony of World Music Day and International Yoga Day blending music's profound beauty with yoga's transformative power. Our celebration was a vibrant tapestry of harmony, joy, and community spirit, creating a day that resonated with peace and well-being.

Our day began with rejuvenating yoga and music sessions, where participants of all ages embraced the ancient practices of asanas and pranayam. The session emphasized mindfulness and breath control, setting a serene tone for the day. The group yoga session that followed embodied unity, as synchronized movements and poses brought participants together in a shared rhythm of wellness. The Early Years and Grade 1-2 students listened to Nepali and Korean songs, discussed the music, and engaged in related activities. This helped them appreciate different cultures and foster their growth as open-minded communicators.

The celebration reached its zenith with a special performance for the Grade 3-4 to Grade 8 students, featuring the enchanting instrumental piece Raga Hamsadhwani on Flute performed by Shree Vishal Kulkarni, accompanied by Shree Abhigny Shastri on the tabla, playing Taal Tritaal. Our expert guests transported the young audience to a world where every note was a brushstroke painting a vivid picture of Indian classical music’s depth and grace.

As the echoes of music and the calm of yoga lingered in our minds, we left with our hearts full and spirits uplifted, marking the perfect beginning to an inspiring academic year ahead for our children.

Another Academic year bestowed a great success on Parent Orientation on June 15th! As an IB World School, we were thrilled to welcome parents to explore our Primary Years and Middle Years programmes.
Our proactive and dedicated teachers hosted informative sessions across multiple centres within the school, and left no stone unturned in providing detailed insights into the curriculum of each specific programme and subject area. Parents had the opportunity to engage with our educators, ask questions, and gain a comprehensive understanding of the educational journey we offer.
Parents passionately indulged themselves in various hands-on activities to experience the learning at Aarth and took a ride to see the world with a different lens. With exhilaration, they explored unique ways of learning happening in all the disciples, be it Maths, Language, etc. Nonetheless, the policies, expectations and protocols were discussed in depth and doubts were clarified with ease.
Event Highlights:
Early Years: Parents discovered our play-based learning approach that sparks curiosity and joy in our youngest learners.
Primary Years: Insight was provided into our inquiry-based learning methods and how we foster critical thinking skills in our primary students.
Middle Years: Detailed discussions on our rigorous academic framework and the development of well-rounded individuals were held.
The Theme of the year, “Root,” was unveiled during a special event with parents, celebrating the school's rich history. The event showcased photographs from the school's early days to the present, illustrating its evolution over the years. Traditional games were featured, highlighting the school's core values and heritage.
Parents shared their aspirations for the values they wish to instill in their children's education, emphasising the importance of strong roots in their development. Overall, the “Root” theme underscored the significance of staying connected to our foundational values while guiding our children on their educational journey.

Our Oval area was buzzing with energy as we arrived, greeted by dazzling Rhymes on LED screens.

We burned off energy with exciting games like:
- Hurdle Ball Pass
- Bouncy Fun on the Trampoline
- Blindfold Hunt (trust us, it's hilarious!)
- Duck Walk Races
- A Poppin' Good Time with Balloon Games
- And, of course, playtime in the Playzone!

The fun continued all day as we played games like passing the parcel to help everyone get to know each other in our new homerooms. Our photo booth was a big hit, capturing fun class pictures we can all cherish.

Fun-tastic First Day at Aarth!

The halls of Aarth's Square Yard jittered with excitement as we welcomed our PY-MY students on the first day of the academic year.

It became a colourful spectacle as each class wore their assigned colours. We followed large footprints on the ground, hopping, twisting, and laughing along the way with our homeroom teachers. Once in class, the fun continued as we shared stories and built connections, getting to know our teachers and classmates even better.

But the real fun began in the PY-MY Area! We divided into groups and tackled some awesome games:

Balloon Train: We held balloons between us, giggling our way across the space like a human train!
Balancing Hula Hoops: Teamwork made the dream work as we navigated the course with hula hoops in pairs. ‍
Group Drawing: We channelled our inner artists in a hilarious game of blind drawing, creating some wild masterpieces!
Pictionary: The guesswork and laughter flew as we tried to decipher each other's drawings in this classic game. ️‍
Chinese Train: We passed on secret actions through a line, ending up with some pretty silly results!
Pour the Challenge: Cooperation and focus were key as we passed a ball from cone to cone without using our hands!

Back in our classrooms, our MY students participated in enjoyable activities with their subject teachers, which helped them feel comfortable and build trust. Our PY students discussed important agreements with our teachers to ensure a happy and productive year!

Before heading home, we shared important exit procedures and bus Essential Agreements to ensure a safe and smooth transition.
