What are the subjects in DP?

DP students choose one subject from each of the following six ‘Subject Groups’:

Group 1: First Language (English)
Group 2: Second Language (French, German ab initio, Hindi, etc)
Group3: Individuals and Societies (History, Economics, Business and Management, etc)
Group 4: Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Systems)
Group 5: Mathematics and Computer Science
Group 6: Electives (either Visual Arts or a second subject from Groups 3, 4 or 5) In addition, all DP students must study a two-year course called Theory of Knowledge (TOK); work to produce on Extended Essay (EE); and engage in Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS).

Reflecting on an Inspiring Day at the Gujarat Network PYP Coordinators' and Teachers' Meet!

What an incredible experience we had hosting the Gujarat Network PYP Coordinators' and Teachers' Meet on September 21st! Educators from across the Gujarat Network gathered at our school for a day filled with enriching sessions and meaningful connections, all aligned with the principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB).

From the outset, the atmosphere buzzed with enthusiasm for learning from each other. The day began with engaging discussions on Inquiry-Based Learning led by Adani International School, which sparked dynamic exchanges about innovative strategies to foster curiosity and critical thinking.

As we moved through the sessions, collaboration took center stage. Educators shared their own experiences and strategies, creating a rich tapestry of ideas that we can all draw from. Navrachana International School provided invaluable tools for Exploring Concepts, while Ahmedabad International School introduced effective methods for Conceptual Understanding, prompting thoughtful discussions about best practices in teaching.

In the afternoon, we explored International Mindedness with Adani International School, reinforcing the importance of nurturing globally aware students.

The final discussions on Assessment Strategies led by Navrachana International School and Action in the PYP by Fountainhead School further emphasized the importance of collective growth.

As a beautiful conclusion to this historic day-the first-ever Gujarat Network PYP Coordinators' and Teachers' Meet hosted by Aarth-we gathered to plant a tree, symbolizing our commitment to nurturing growth and fostering a sustainable future.

A heartfelt thank you to all the educators who contributed to this day of collaboration and inspiration. Together, we are building a vibrant community committed to excellence in education, united by the values of the IB.

Our Grade 3-4 students recently had the privilege of attending an insightful session with guest speakers Mayank Kapadia and Niklesh Mavapuri, where they explored how migration both within India and globally has influenced music and culture. The discussion touched on how the fusion of Bhangra rhythms with Garba is a direct result of migration and how global genres like pop, rock, reggae and blues have become an integral part of our musical landscape.

The session highlighted how artists like Pink Floyd were inspired by Indian classical musicians such as Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Allarakha Khan, bringing innovation into their music. Students also explored the journey of Rabindra Sangeet and its role in carrying Bengali cultural richness beyond borders.

The guest speakers performed various music styles, including reggae and demonstrated how Western instrumentation blends with Gujarati folk music, as seen in the popular song Gotilo. They also shared how Bollywood has adapted Western music while incorporating diverse Indian folk traditions. The session further showcased the Rajasthani instrument Kartaal, explaining how its local roots have now expanded into different types of performances. One of the guest guest speakers recounted how inspired by a local artist in Rajasthan, he purchased a Kartaal and now uses it in his performances.

This engaging session provided students with a deeper understanding of how migration and cultural exchange shape the music we hear today, influencing both individuals and society.

🌟 IIMUN Club Elections 2024: A Day of Leadership and Unity 🌟

On 19th September, our school proudly hosted the much-awaited IIMUN Club Elections. It was a momentous occasion where students and teachers came together to select the Club President and the Department Head - International Outlook. With teacher incharges Mr. Amit Kumar and Mr. Abhishek Sharma serving as our esteemed Election Commissioners, the day unfolded as a true celebration of democracy, showcasing the power of leadership and the importance of making informed choices.
The election process saw enthusiastic participation from MYP, PYP, and specialist teachers, as well as students from Grades 3-4 onwards. The candidates ran thoughtful campaigns, sharing their visions for IIMUN Club's future. Congratulations to Mishah Kevadiya and Ural Patel, who were selected unopposed for the roles of Department Head - United Nations Activities and Department Head - Indian Values, respectively. Their leadership has already begun shaping the club's future with great promise.

Voting began at 1:30 PM, with students and teachers casting their votes in an organised and engaging process. The election was not just about selecting new leaders; it was an inspiring learning experience for all involved, teaching the importance of responsibility and the democratic process.

Dots are a way to infinity
We unleashed our creativity and created amazing dot art pieces on the occasion of World Dot Day. From tiny dots to vibrant patterns, we explored the endless possibilities of this simple yet powerful form of expression.

Younger students of EY and Grades 1-2 were introduced to the magic of dots through interactive activities and storytelling. Our students kicked off the day with a fun and inspiring video on dot art, followed by lively classroom discussions with their teachers. They shared their thoughts, ideas, and got ready to dive into their creative journey. Armed with A4 sheets and a rainbow of colours, the students then unleashed their imagination to create their own unique dot art masterpieces. It was a fantastic blend of learning, creativity, and artistic expression!
Our students of Grades 3–8 explored the theme 'What is your dot?' through a video and engaging classroom discussions. They even took a moment to reflect on the incredible dot-filled world of Yayoi Kusama, drawing inspiration from her iconic works. Guided by their teachers, they then brought their ideas to life on a shared canvas divided into sections for each class. With a variety of dotting tools like pens, cotton swabs, bindis, stencils, and more, students got creative within their designated spaces. They worked together to plan, design, and execute the mural, fostering teamwork and cooperation.
It was a day filled with colours and artistic inspiration!

Our Early Years students celebrated International Peace Day, reflecting on the Journal Prompt “If you could create a peaceful world, what would it be like?"

Through vibrant group discussions and colourful illustrations, our young learners shared inspiring ideas of kindness, friendship, and togetherness. From heartwarming stories of unity to promises of spreading love and understanding, their reflections reminded us that building a better world is possible when we start with love. They shared, “In my peaceful world there will be no weapons.”, “I want my world, where no one hits, pushes or hurts anyone.”, “In my world I want no country should fight with anyone, they should share all the resources.”, "In my peaceful world people will be caring, helpful, supportive and work in a team and be synergised.” It was heartwarming to see their imagination and dreams come alive as they envisioned a world filled with harmony.

Our PY classrooms were filled with the spirit of peace, kindness and unity as we celebrated International Peace Day. We began by watching an inspiring video about peace, which helped us understand its importance and set the tone for the day.
We were given thoughtful prompts about promoting peace, including how we can build a peaceful environment in the classroom which sparked engaging and meaningful discussions. Using illustrations and text, we answered these prompts, exploring what peace means and its crucial role in building a better future. This special day provided a wonderful opportunity for us to reflect on the values of peace and how we can contribute to fostering harmony in our community.

We are proud to align our classroom engagements with this global event, resonating deeply with the IB mission to foster a peaceful, compassionate world. By celebrating International Peace Day, we are reminded of the power of peace and unity in building a better future for everyone.

🌱 A Day of Learning at the Model Plant Nursery! 🌿

As part of our Unit of Inquiry, our Grade 1-2 students had an enriching field trip to the Model Plant Nursery, Jahangirpura, where they explored the systems and processes that help the nursery function smoothly. This hands-on experience allowed our students to understand the process of planting and also how different systems within an organisation play a vital role in its success.This experience helped students connect the dots between theoretical knowledge and real-world systems. They could see firsthand how every role, process and resource is interlinked and contributes to the efficient functioning of the organization.

Here are some inquiry questions that guided our exploration during the visit:
How do different systems in an organization work together?
What are the roles of different people in an organization and how different systems are interconnected?

The field trip ignited their curiosity and we could see their minds buzzing with ideas on applying this knowledge to future projects. This visit has given our students a broader understanding of the world around them and how every small part contributes to the whole.💚🌍

🌍 Exploring Migration Through Stories: Students and Parents Human Library Event 📚
As part of our inquiry into Human Migration under the transdisciplinary theme “Where We Are in Place and Time,” our Grade 3-4 students had the unique opportunity to engage in a truly enriching experience – Students and Parents Human Library!

This special event, held on September 11th, 2024, at the Book Café, offered our students the chance to dive deeper into the topic of human migration by hearing personal stories and experiences. Participants shared their journeys of overcoming challenges, adapting to new environments, and discovering their identities through the lens of migration.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible Human Library storytellers, who made this event unforgettable! Parents Ms. Saniya Nihalani, Ms.Nisha Singh, Ms. Sejal and Ms. Dhara Gandhi shared deeply moving stories of their migration journeys. We were equally inspired by our young voices, including Aanya Gandhi from Grade 1-2, Kayaan Chauhan, Aarush Bansal, Hitarth Raninga, and Swayam Tandel from Grade 5, as well as Hridaan Patel and Anaeya Patel from Grade 6-7, who brought their unique perspectives and personal experiences to the table.

Our young learners walked away from the event with newfound empathy, a better understanding of global migration, and the realization of how migration has shaped individuals, families, and communities throughout history.
